DIY Succulent Pumpkins

Updated: Jan 9, 2024

Recently my mom and I decided we are going to put our crafty skills to use and (try) to do a DIY project every month. This might be a tall order to fill, in reality once a season seems more doable. The night before Thanksgiving we made these adorable Succulent Pumpkins, and they were suprisingly easy. Keep reading to find out exactly how to make one yourself!

Supplies Needed:

  • Fake Pumpkins - I got mine on clearance at Michael's Craft Store, but here is also a great white option.

  • Knife - An Exacto style would work best but any sharp knife would do the trick as well

  • Craft Moss

  • Fake Succulents

  • Hot Glue Gun - I highly recommend a cordless one like this one that I got in November 2022 and it is still working great!

Here's all our supplies laid out.

Step 1: Carefully carve off the top of your pumpkin. Basically you just need the stem cut off, and I carved off about an inch of the top of the pumpkin as well.

Step 2: Hot glue the moss to create a base and filler for the succulents.

Step 3: (Optional, but recommended!) I used my Cricut weeding tool to poke holes in each spot to make it easier to insert the succulent stems. Any similar poking tool would work, a needle or skewer would do the job just fine.

Step 4: Insert the succulents as desired. There really is no rhyme or reason, I just tried to fill the space in as much as possible. You can do a color scheme or add a bit of every color. Make sure to get the back as well!

Step 5: Once you are satisfied, hot glue the succulents down to make sure they stay in place.

That's it! Such a simple project, and the results are so cute. Let me know in the comments below if you are going to try this project. I'd love to see the results!
